There is any number of competitions you can enter and awards to be won in the hospitality industry.  Some competitions like the WorldSkills National Competition are aimed at young people working in food and beverage.  Or have a look at the Lexus Appetite for Excellence awards to see the categories and opportunities for young people who enter this competition.  There are also specialist competitions for bartenders, baristas and sommeliers.

Various hospitality industry associations and organizations also run award events and competitions.  These include Restaurant & Catering Australia’s Young Achiever of the Year and the Australian Hotel Association’s Hotelier of the Year or Young Hotel Manager of the Year.  The Catering Institute of WA runs a number of competitions offering awards that include Chef of the Year, Professional Waiter of the Year and Student Waiter of the Year.

Or if you are an apprentice chef there are many competitions run at regional and local levels, with winners often competing at state and sometimes even national levels. Just ask around at your work place or where you do your training for competition opportunities.
