Why work at a club?

If you like working with and meeting people, you could find that the varied and interesting work available in clubs is for you.  You may be familiar with them already, because you have been to clubs for meals with your family.  So if you want to work in the hospitality industry, starting at a club could be the way to go.

There are many types of clubs situated in both the city and rural and regional areas across the nation.  Many clubs can be large like the big sporting and RSL clubs, while others may be smaller and belong to a particular ethnic group or are special interest group clubs like journalist and workers clubs.

What are clubs all about?

All clubs are licensed and many offer gaming facilities as well as a variety of bars, restaurants and lounges. They usually provide entertainment for their members and guests, and often host concerts and other types of activities. Many clubs use a percentage of profits to provide a range of services to their members and to support community groups and organisations, particularly in their local areas.

The work is varied and includes a range of front of house roles like food and beverage services, as well as kitchen jobs.  There are often opportunities to work in several areas at the same time, for example, you might work in the bar and bottle shop, or the bar and gaming area.

Many clubs are open long hours, offering more options to find shifts that suit you, than might be available in other types of hospitality, such as restaurants that have set service periods.  Your training can be on-the-job and/or by course work, and some clubs have their own training schools that offer a range of courses.
