You can work in a range of different types of venues (or sectors) in the hospitality industry, including restaurants and cafes, clubs, pubs and taverns, hotels and catering. You may find yourself involved in tourism. The hospitality and tourism industries are closely linked as many hospitality customers are from interstate or overseas. And they all need to eat and stay somewhere!

    Catering is often described as the “hidden" side of the hospitality industry but jobs in catering can be challenging and creative, and very rewarding, knowing for instance that in working in a hospital or school, you are helping the community.

    If you like working with and meeting people, you could find that the varied and interesting work available in clubs is for you.  You may be familiar with them already, because you have been to clubs for meals with your family.  So if you want to work in the hospitality industry, starting at a club could be the way to go.

    You may have already decided that you would like a career in the industry or even have the dream of owning your own restaurant or café.  It is an exciting industry, where you meet lots of people and have the satisfaction of creating or serving great dishes or drinks for them.

    No matter what type of hotel you work in, you will gain a wide range of skills and be provided with career opportunities as well. You could become a food and beverage manager, a housekeeper, a functions manager or even the GM!

    Pubs and taverns vary from small, local pubs to large taverns and offer a range of facilities and services including bars, restaurants, gaming activities, and even discos. Many host live entertainment like rock bands or jazz groups, so if you like music they can be great places to work.
